Atlas shines spotlight on skills with OE seminars

The application of 3D simulations for skills and learning in the oil and gas industry will be among the topics at two free seminars hosted by IESTA member Atlas during Offshore Europe.

The international learning and knowledge provider is holding a business breakfast on Wednesday (7 September), followed by a later lunchtime discussion, at their premises at the Science and Energy Park in Aberdeen.

The breakfast event starts at 7am with an overview of current industry safety initiatives, including the new International Minimum Industry Safety Training (IMIST) Standard and mechanical joint integrity issues from speakers including OPITO International managing director Ian Laing.

IMIST has been developed by global oil and gas training standards body OPITO International. For the first time, it brings a standardised level of basic safety training to an estimated 1.5million people employed in exploration and production activities worldwide. It will be delivered in partnership with international learning and skills provider Atlas via e-learning and tailored to meet each region’s specific workforce, language and geographic needs.

At lunchtime, Troels Munck, founding partner of software developer Shelterland, and Ken Jones, head of research and development at Atlas, will be hosting a discussion from noon on simulation and scenario-based learning technologies. This will be followed by an opportunity for you to trial some exciting 3D innovations being developed to support the oil and gas industry. Recently rebranded Atlas, formerly Atlas Interactive will also present its new identity and vision for the company.

Atlas provides innovative learning, compliance and competency solutions to more than 600 organisations in the oil & gas and other safety-critical industries worldwide. Its technology-led solutions are used to deliver over 350,000 learning events across 40 countries and in more than 20 languages every year with the specific aim of helping the industry improve business performance while reducing legislative and operational risk through the creation of a safer, more highly skilled workforce.

Atlas chief executive John Rowley said: “The oil and gas industry is always looking for new ways to tackle the skills issue and with the development of new technologies we are at the beginning of an exciting journey into unlocking more comprehensive learning tools to increase competency and knowledge retention.

“We hope these seminars will provide a forum for industry to hear about some of the latest initiatives currently under development and debate the key issues around how we bridge the gap between compliance and competency via learning.”

Atlas will be exhibiting with IESTA on stand No 1D80 at Offshore Europe. The two-hour seminars will take place at Atlas HQ, Aberdeen Energy Park, AB23 8GD, opposite the Offshore Europe site. Free parking will be available for delegates throughout the day.
