As one of Scotland’s largest colleges and as the largest single local provider of further education in the North-East of Scotland, Aberdeen College has a major role to play in meeting the vocational education and training needs of individuals, firms and communities. In 2009-10, over 5,900 full time and over 28,000 part time learners enrolled to study on one or more of the College’s programmes. The Engineering disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Measurement & Control and CADD, account for over 500 full time and over 1200 part time enrolments, studying anything from N/SVQ level 2 to HND level.
The College will continue to promote a coherent approach to the delivery of education and training services by working with partners from education, business, local authorities, and the voluntary sector. Students attending Aberdeen College, an Associate College of Robert Gordon University, are provided with enhanced progression and articulation opportunities into degree programmes. The College has also recently entered into close working relationships with the city’s other university, the University of Aberdeen, and also with Banff & Buchan College. These partnerships will help Aberdeen College address the forthcoming challenges of a declining young population and an uncertain financial climate within the public sector.
